UNIVERSAL: Fans of Ted Lasso, this isn't a drill. The highly anticipated fourth season of Apple TV+'s immensely successful soccer comedy is almost here, and Deadline has learned that Warner Bros. Television has taken up the options on the three original cast members who were under contract with the UK acting union Equity. They are Jeremy Swift as Director of Football Operations Leslie Higgins, Brett Goldstein as hardman Roy Kent, and Hannah Waddingham as AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Walton.
We've heard that after signing the three, the studio will likely start contacting Ted Lasso cast members whose options had expired on their SAG-AFTRA contracts. This means that new deals would need to be made. Besides co-creators and executive producers Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) and Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), who may also include Juno Temple (Keeley Jones). We learn that one of the original Ted Lasso characters, Phil Dunster (Jamie Tart), has not been picked up, most likely because of a clash with another series; he appears on Apple's Surface as well as The Devil's Hour on Prime Video.
Early arrangements are being made to create a writers room in addition to reaching out to the actors. If all goes according to plan, a fourth season is reportedly planning to begin production in early 2025. WBTV and Apple TV+ representatives declined to comment.
The fact that the studio would not have moved further without the approval of Ted Lasso's primary driving force, both on and off screen, Jason Sudeikis, is a sign that the Season 4 greenlight process has begun.
Ted Lasso's destiny has remained dependent on Sudeikis, who had created the role in NBC Sports videos. Executives from Warner Bros. and Apple have stated that it would be up to Sudeikis whether or not to renew Ted Lasso, one of the largest and most acclaimed comedy of the last ten years, but they have shown a desire to do so.
